Dyslexic… and thriving
We work together to find learning strategies that suit the way your child’s brain processes information
We learn what dyslexia is and how your child can ‘own’ their diagnosis
We cover general executive function coaching when approaching academic or life tasks
We cover strategies such as use of different styles of graphic organiser for writing and acronyms for structuring writing coherently, plus kinaesthetic and colour-based proofreading strategies
Mind mapping and word cloud techniques can be used to support inferential comprehension
With older learners, we explore the Harvard method of active reading for wider general information analysis
Small segments of each lesson are spent going over any key specific common spelling patterns identified from written work as needing further embedding
We also spend time each lesson on ‘metacognition’; developing awareness of how your child learns best and how the dyslexic brain processes information differently from the typical brain
For learners without a definitive diagnosis, I am qualified to informally assess your child for Dyslexia (level 5 BDA). This helps me to map a student's learning profile and plan their programme of work. Some parents then wish to progress to a full neurodiversity diagnostic assessment (FNDA) by an educational psychologist.
My dyslexic pupils are some of the most intuitive and creative learners I’ve ever met! Learning to thrive with dyslexia requires ingenuity, planning and positive support.
